Fabio: You must learn Italian
FABIO CAPELLO has ordered his England stars to take Italian lessons — so they can all understand him. The Italian coach made the shock decision after finally admitting defeat in his bid to learn English.
Capello vowed to speak the lingo within a month after taking over from Steve McClaren in January.
But despite sitting English lessons every day and being able to understand basic phrases, Capello is still struggling to speak the language.
He needed a translator after last week’s 1-0 defeat in France.
And Capello, 61, has now thrown in the towel, fearing he was spending more time in the classroom than getting to know his players.
He thinks it will be easier if stars like Wayne Rooney, David Beckham and Steven Gerrard learn Italian.
Capello will appoint a language tutor before his squad meet up for a friendly with USA on May 28.
His translator Andy Fraser said: “He can understand the well-spoken players like David James and Owen Hargreaves but has no chance with Gerrard and Rooney.
“So he thought it would be easier if they learned Italian.
“He expects the players to be able to talk in Italian within a few months.
“That’s why he said last week that you won’t see his ‘real England’ until August.”
Capello will confirm the the order today, April 1, and is also planning nights at the opera with his stars.
A Soho Square insider said: “Fabio loves Rinaldo as much as Ronaldo.”
